We stayed at The Dove Creek Lodge after coming from
Key West on a week long stay. This place was fantastic. It was very
nicely decorated, extremely clean, well staffed and fun! We
will for sure come back to stay here. One word.....Fantastic!

Having lived in Florida all of our lives (50-ish), my wife and I finally decided
that we should see the Keys. We
looked on several websites for weeks before we decided to stay at the Dove
Creek Lodge. The weather didn't cooperate for our attempts at chartering a
deep sea fishing day, nor did we snorkel the reefs due to high winds, but that
made us all the more glad that we chose to stay at this beautiful and sparkling-clean
lodge. Our four days at this quaint lodge were a welcome and much needed relaxation
from the fast-paced lives that we're used to living.
The GM, Jamie and the concierge, Gwen were always especially pleasant, informative,
and hospitable as were the rest of the staff.
The adjacent restaurant, Snappers was the best dining we had during our vacation
in the Keys. Try the yellowtail snapper grilled while sitting on the outside
deck. You'll love it too.

The phrase "a home from home" is over-used. But this location is
a shining example of what it means. To be
honest, staying here never felt like we where in a hotel, more like staying
at an affluent friends place! Our
check-in couldn't have been warmer.
We were blown away by the location and the quality of the property - . It felt
brand new. The bed was
incredibly comfortable and little touches like branded "Dove Creek" bottled
water and a home made CD with
sunshine grooves made us fall in love with the place even more.
The grounds at the hotel were like an adults playground, with a pool, hot tub,
hammock and plenty of places to sit and look out to sea. My only regret is
that my fiancee and I never got to look up at the stars from one of the hammocks!
Although we never ate at "Snappers" across the car park, you do get
a reserved table. I had read the reviews
here on Tripadvisor which were not great, so we decided to eat at the Key Largo
Coffee House. Wow! What
an inexpensive and amazing dinner. The staff were very attentive and friendly.
I loved the free wifi too to check emails whilst over indulging on home made
Key Lime Pie. The bar at Snappers (Turtle Club??) is a good place to drink
at once you return though.
Highly recommended!

Simply put, you just can't beat the Dove Creek Lodge. This immaculately groomed
property is ideal for spending your days on the water then relaxing in the
evening. We leave the boat tied up right on on the dock which is perfect for
an early outing or a late afternoon snorkel trip. They've got the hoses right
there (functioning properly) which make clean up a cinch. In between the lodge
and restaurant (Snapper's) is a fish cleaning station for use of the hotel
guests. You would think that a "fishing lodge" would
inherently come with that good ole chum smell and feeling--forget it. The rooms
are VERY, VERY clean and fresh and the property is 5 star maintained all day.
The very friendly "island style" cleaning crew seem to
time their cleaning just right so that you never get a knock on the
door and I've never seen them in my room once.
The very best part
of the lodge despite it's gorgeous setting, ease of access to the
ocean and fishing grounds and it's proximity to a happening tiki
bar is the people that work there. In an area somewhat notoroius
for "crabby" working
class people, scratching to stay afloat, the property managers are extremely
polite, engaging, happy and very accomodating. I've been fortunate to have
Gwen handle my reservations and greet me on site during each of my visits.
She is a refreshingly delightful person who is perfectly suited for the hospitality
business. She makes staying there comfortable, homey and very simple. It's
great to stay at a place where you feel clean, comfortable and the staff
goes out of there way to personally accomodate you.
Don't forget the world class fishing, diving and snorkeling off
your front step. One last note, resist the urge to pitch a line
at the numerous tarpon swirling around in the marina. It's as tempting
as could be but not permitted!
